WINCHESTER .17 WINCHESTER SUPER MAG

Winchester is changing the game with a blistering fast new rimfire round! The .17 Winchester Super Mag drives a 20 grain bullet at a very impressive 3000 fps. This is roughly 500 fps faster than any other current rimfire. With a flatter trajectory, and less wind drift due to a shorter time of flight, the usable range is extended out to 300 yards and beyond. The bullet choices include a 20 grain polymer tip, a 20 grain jacketed hollow point, and a 25 grain polymer tip. The case is noticeably longer than the .17 HMR, and wider in the body as well. It is actually based on a necked-down .27-calibre tool blank case. If you don't know what that means, it basically means that the cartridge upon which this new round is based was actually borrowed from Winchester's .27-calibre power fastener casing, typically used for firing nails into cement and whatnot. We think this is a better use. Look for it in new rifles from Winchester, naturally, as well as Savage with other brands expected to follow shortly.
