THE ACT ENDING THE LONG GUN REGISTRY IS BEING AMENDED

Daniel Fritter in , on June 7, 2017

Ralph Goodale will introduce “An Act to amend the Ending the Long-gun Registry Act” this afternoon in the House of Commons.

Due to technical issues with the government’s website, the text of the bill is as yet unavailable, but it is highly unlikely that the amendments include anything that might indicate a return to the federal long gun registry. However, after a long and drawn-out battle with the Quebec provincial government regarding that province’s desire to create a provincial registry, the amendments may include concessions aimed at bringing an end to that legal battle, one way or another.

To watch the bill’s introduction live this afternoon, the sitting of the House of Commons will be broadcast live here. We will be updating this page as more information becomes available.
