Proof Research Tundra: Lightweight, long-distance hunting accuracy

Backcountry hunting is growing in popularity these days, thanks to the likes of Steve Rinella and other media-friendly types. With that, we see a growing interest in lightweight, accurate hunting rifles, made for packing up steep, rough mountain terrain, and capable of long shots in tough circumstances. That's where the new Proof Research Tundra comes in.
The Tundra is only seven pounds, three ounces before you start bolting on sling and optics. True, there are lighter rifles on the market, but the Tundra is supposed to have sub-.5 MOA accuracy. A Skinny Minnie Miller carbine will do you no good if you can't actually make the long-distance mountaintop shot you need to.
"There are many lightweight rifles out there, but many come sacrificing accuracy for weight," says Kelly Streiff, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Proof Research. "The Tundra embodies everything that we stand for, which is to develop a lightweight rifle that maintains and delivers extreme long-range accuracy.”
To keep weight down, Proof Research put a carbon-fibre stock on the Tundra, with adjustable Monte Carlo cheekpiece. There's also a Sendero-contour carbon-fibre barrel (24 or 26 inches long, depending on calibre, with threaded muzzle). All that carbon-fibre means improved resistance to foul weather, while also cutting weight and maintaining rigidity.
The Defiance Ruckus action comes with guaranteed headspace of +/-.001 inches. There are no iron sights on the rifle, but there's a one-piece rail from the factory. There's a BDL-style magazine, and a TriggerTech trigger comes standard.
All very nice kit indeed, and Proof Research plans for rifles in 6mm Creedmoor, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 7mm Remington Magnum, 28 Nosler, .308 Winchester, .300 Winchester Magnum, .300 Winchester Short Magnum, .300 PRC, .300 Remington Ultra Magnum and .338 Lapua—all the hot-rod favourites, it seems, without classics like .30-06 or .270.
Along with the wide range of magnum-length calibres, Proof Research will offer several different finishes. At this point, the company says there's such macho-sounding patterns as Black Granite, Green Granite, Brown Granite, Black Jungle Camo, Green Jungle Camo, Blue Jungle Camo, Tactical Flat Dark Earth, Grassland Green, Grassland Tan and Desert Warrior available. Also, you can order the rifle in a Cotton Candy paint finish—you do you.
