Gunsmith Simulator: A different kind of shooter game

Zac Kurylyk in on July 19, 2022

Being a gunsmith might sound like a lot of fun, and some people are making good money at it, even here in Canada. But what if you want the fun of tinkering with firearms, but don't want the expense and liability of opening a business? Game Hunters Studio has got your back, with their new Gunsmith Simulator!

This is a made-in-Europe game; Game Hunters Studio is based in Poland. When you hear that, it all starts to make more sense. While North Americans have historically been most interested in flight simulators, Europeans will make games that simulate running a train, or a transport truck, or even a power washing business. No, I'm not making that up. So while you and I might prefer the tactile joys of actually handling wood, polymer, steel and aluminum and repairing a firearm in real life, gamers from across the pond might be more open to something like this.

What does gameplay actually look like? See below; surprisingly, the graphics are excellent.

OK, so this particular YouTuber isn't taking this very seriously, but you can see how this game could be quite a bit of fun.

Officially, Game Hunters Studio says Gunsmith Simulator will let you:

Check yourself out as a gunsmith.

  • Find out how weapons are built.
  • Craft parts.
  • Repair the weapon in a different state of damage.
  • Extend your weapons with additions.
  • Test your weapons in battle.
  • Cooperate with other players.
  • Enjoy the wide range of pistols, rifles, snipers and special-purpose weapons available.

So, yeah: You can virtually test the weapons out, after you're done tinkering.

Elsewhere, the marketeers say:

There’s nothing like the smell of coffee blended with the metallic aroma of repaired guns in the morning... Become a virtual gunsmith, and it will become a part of your everyday reality.
You’ve already prepared your workshop and equipped it, and learning the profession just came naturally. Now you are left with finding your first customer. Fire up that computer, go to the “GunStock” website and browse through available auctions and ads. Who knows, maybe you will find someone who is in great need of your skills!

Well, at least it looks a bit more realistic than Sim City. Again, here in Canada, where you can still buy restricted and non-restricted firearms (as long as you can get the transfer through), a game like this might seem a but silly. In Europe, where some countries have much tighter gun control, maybe something like this would be more appealing.

Currently, Gunsmith Simulator's release date is TBA, but there is an entry for the game on the Steam download platform, including a list of system requirements (basically, any modern Windows computer should work). There, you can also sign up to be a playtester, if you really want to try it for yourself, or you can download the demo. If you do play it, let us know how it goes!
