Black Creek Labs SRV2 Siberian Rifles Are Shipping Out

While sales were no doubt initially dampened by the Liberal government's proposed amendments to Bill C-21 (which would have banned Canadian sales), the Black Creek Labs SRV2 Siberian semi-auto rifle is in production. Now, with the Liberals removing those amendments in early February, presumably more shooters are emboldened to put their money down on one of these made-in-Canada rifles.

The details so far

When we first learned about this rifle back in November, we told you ... "it runs a mid-length gas system, based on the AR-180B design, similar to most other made-in-Canada semi-auto rifles. It re-uses several small parts and designs from other Black Creek Labs rifles, including the magazine and bolt release, pins, and other bits. The SRV2 Siberian has an AR-15-style barrel nut, and of course it will run AR-15 magazines ...

"It comes with an ambidextrous safety, non-reciprocating charging handle. There are QD attachment points built into the rails as steel inserts, so they don't wear out."

Since then, we've had some more info come out. The rifle comes with a limited lifetime warranty. So far, we've only seen the tan upper/black lower combination available. The rifle comes with a folding Magpul Zhukov stock; available barrel lengths are 12.5 inches, 16.5 inches and 18.5 inches; looking at the rifle's manual, it appears a 9.5 inch barrel will also be available to some markets at some point. Twist rate is 1-in-8, and the factory claims 1.2 MOA accuracy.

That accuracy claim seems to be more-or-less backed up by early shooting reports you can find on social media, as long as quality ammo is used. Most users seem happy with the soft-shooting rifle, even surprised by the low recoil considering the airy 6.9-lb weight. As with any new design, there have been some reports of various minor malfunctions. There is also some grumbling over the fact you must remove the gas block to clean the action piston (see the manual here for an explanation). However, Black Creek Labs says that cleaning the gas system is only necessary after every 1500 rounds, approximately, so you can have a lot of fun between those cleaning sessions.

Where to find one?

Although Black Creek Labs lists 50 dealers for the Siberian, it does seem a bit hard to get your hands on one. Online retailers frequently seem to lack stock, but having said that, with numerous range reports popping up on YouTube and social media, these rifles are obviously making it out to the wild. Your best guess, it seems, is to call your local gun shop, if they're a BCL dealer, and find out what they can do to help. Asking price seems to be in the $1600-$1700 CAD range at this point, if you do find one.
