Behold The POF-USA Tombstone: Expensive Mag-Fed Tactical 9mm Lever-Action Insanity

If you've been paying attention to Calibre's website for a while, you might remember me saying that lever-action rifles are the next tactical frontier. And in case there was any doubt, check out this latest creation from US-based Patriot Ordnance Factory. POF-USA has created ... a tactical lever-action rifle chambered in 9mm, feeding from detachable box mags.

It's called the Tombstone, and it's a sign of the times. As gun sales continue to boom in the US and even around the world, more and more jurisdictions are tightening their laws on semi-auto rifles, leaving shooters looking for alternative tactical firearms. As well, we see increased demand for lever-action rifles in general, with manufacturers unable to keep up with demand. Plus, the whole "tactical cowboy" schtick has generally taken off in the past few years, with TV and social media influencers having no trouble mixing traditional western themes with modern firearms (see also: Justified, Longmire, Yellowstone, etc.).

In this case, the Tombstone is festooned with plenty of rails and mounting points. The barrel is free-floated with a muzzle brake and comes with XS sights. It uses the same proprietary 20-round double-stack single-feed magazines that POF-USA uses for other 9mm-chambered firearms, which may make it difficult to get these mags in Canada. Shooters up here in the frozen North may have to be content with five-rounders (currently, POF-USA offers 35-rounders and 10-rounders along with the 20-rounders).

Of course, they'd have to save the scratch to buy the Tombstone in the first place, and with an MSRP around $2,000 USD, it seems unlikely Canadians would be lined up to buy these. No matter how fun the tacticool look might be, that $2k (before the exchange rate and taxes and shipping, etc.) would buy a Rossi 1892 clone and a Savage 99 with money still left over for practice ammo.
